Where should it go?

I found this great old sign recently at a thrift shop.  They had purchased it at an auction.  I believe it is the side of an old shipping crate.  I absolutely love old signs.  I always find that they are extremely hard to come by, so I was really excited when I came across this one.  I thought about putting it downstairs on a wall.  I have some large blank spaces that need to be filled.  My husband however, wasn't too fond of the idea.  It does look a bit primitive due to some of the splitting in the wood.  It will probably wind up in my craft studio instead. 

I am in the process of moving.  Oh, how I can't wait to own my very own home one day.  My dream is to have an older home with lots of character and beautiful wood floors.  For now, I will attempt to add as much character to my very new town home as I possibly can by adding some of my favorite vintage and antique finds. 

I found this little shelf at a great antique mall in Sacramento, CA.  I think it will wind up in the downstairs bath.  I will have to show you pics of it again after it is put up on the wall and filled with finds.

My husband and I found this pretty cabinet recently at a Flea Market.  I think it will be perfect for the bathroom for towels and such.

More Great Finds

I felt like making something crafty this past week so I made these little soaps.  I was having a heck of a time finding small guest soaps for my bathroom, so I finally resorted to making my own.  They are hand poured and made from goats milk.  I dressed them up with some paper from old books.

It was great to be able to go back home to the South recently, where good old fashioned ice tea is abundant.  Kinda funny how tastes can differ so much throughout the country huh?  In California it's not nearly as popular.  When I saw these vintage tea spoons recently, I just couldn't pass them up.

I just love, love, love old alarm clocks!  They make such a great piece to add to a vignette in just about any area of the house.  I bought quite a few recently with the intention of selling them in the store, but I just can't seem to part with them.  I have decided to say goodbye to one of these shown below; the one with the black face.  It doesn't work unfortunately, but it's perfect for display.  I hope it will go to a good home.

What is it about having a special little cup that makes tea or coffee seem so much more enjoyable?  I am actually always on the search for the heavy, ironstone coffee mugs like they use in cafes.  I swear coffee tastes better in them!  I also like pretty little cups like the one below, not only to drink from, but to display buttons and the like,  as well.

Gotta love creams and whites.  My husband use to think it was crazy how white my apartment was when we first met.   He said it looked like a hospital.  Men just don't get it do they?  I myself, find something so very soothing about a room done in creams and whites. 

Vintage wire baskets are so trendy right now and therefore, I find them very hard to come by.  I am in the process of organizing and decorating my craft studio and find they work great for this space.  They are perfect for storing items on open shelving.  I will have to share some pics with you once the room is completed.  I got the best deal awhile back on the solid oak desk I have in the studio.  It is exactly what I had been searching for.  It is absolutely gorgeous.  I found it on Craigslist for only $60.00!  What a bargain!

Handmade Creations

I always feel inspired to create something after looking through my Somerset Life Magazines.  I am always on the lookout for pieces of lace, old jewelry, trinkets and such, hoping that one day they will become part of a wonderful, handmade piece.  It seems I do more collecting and thinking about what I should create, versus actually sitting down and creating.  I am in the process of moving to a new place.  I hope that once everything is settled and I get my studio organized, I will have more time to focus on this.  I thought I would share some neat handmade creations with you.  Enjoy!

Cottage Charm Givaway!

Treasure Hunting

The best part about my recent vacation, other than seeing my family that I miss dearly, was going to all the great antique and junk shops we visited.  My favorite by far, was this little junk shop in Missouri.  It was actually closed, but we saw the owner outside piddling around, and asked if he would be willing to open up for us;  he did, and we found a few things to buy.  We noticed he had another building off to the side of the shop that looked really junky (those are the best in my book).  We inquired about it, and he stated he now simply uses it for storage.  He shared that it was very disorganized so we would have to enter at our own risk, but he would be willing to let us go inside.  He opened up the doors and wow, I was in heaven!  Talk about some great old junk!  He had old tins, boxes, vintage feed sacks, jars, alarm clocks, and much, much more.  Boy did we have a blast! 
     We also went to several little old towns off the beaten path to find treasures.  I am going to be posting all my finds in my Etsy shop over the next several weeks so go on over and take a look around.  Here is a peek at some of the things I picked up along the way that I will be posting in my Etsy shop later this evening.

Gingerbread Houses Among the Hills.

I recently got back from a needed vacation with my hubby.  One of the places we stopped off at was Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  It is chalk full of wonderful Victorian gingerbread houses.  The homes are set among the hillsides of the beautiful ozarks.  The back porches sport breathtaking views of lush green trees and vegetation.  If you ever get the chance to go you definately should.  Thought I would share some pics of some of the pretty homes we saw on our visit. 

This old white house was one of my favorites.

I can just imagine what it would be like to live here with all the porches, great windows, and cozy spaces way up among the trees.
